Section 45-32-247 Levy of tax. (a)(1) The Greene County Commission is hereby authorized to impose upon every person, firm, or corporation who sells, stores, delivers, uses, or otherwise consumes tobacco or certain tobacco products in Greene County a county privilege, license, or excise tax up to the following amounts: a. Five cents ($0.05) for each package of cigarettes, made of tobacco or any substitute therefor. b. Five cents ($0.05) for each cigar of any description made of tobacco or any substitute therefor. c. Section 40-22-1 Deeds, bills of sale, etc. (a) Except as set out in subsection (b), no deed, bill of sale, or other instrument of like character which conveys any real or personal property within this state or which conveys any interest in any such property shall be received for record unless the privilege or license tax is paid prior to the instrument being offered for record as provided in subsection (c). Section 40-12-253 Ad valorem taxation of motor vehicles. (a) Effective January 1, 2000, ad valorem taxes on motor vehicles shall be assessed and the tax collected forward on a current basis to coincide with the collection of motor vehicle license taxes and registration fees. All applications for motor vehicle tags by mail and the correct amount of taxes and fees shall be received by the commissioner of licenses on or before the last day of the month of expiration, and the commissioner of licenses shall mail such tag forthwith. Applications by mail which are postmarked on or before the last day of the month of expiration are deemed to have been received by the license commissioner on the date of the postmark.
