Section 45-4-244.20 County sales tax to parallel state tax; exemptions; collection and disposition of funds; enforcement. (a) All words, terms, and phrases that are defined in Article 1 of Chapter 23 of Title 40 shall, where used in this section have the meanings respectively ascribed to them in Article 1 except where the context herein clearly indicates a different meaning. In addition, the following words, terms, and phrases where used in this section shall have the following respective meanings except where the context clearly indicates a different meaning: (1) STATE SALES TAX STATUTES. Section 45-5-247 Levy of tax authorized. (a) In addition to all other taxes of every kind now imposed by law, the Blount County Commission may levy a privilege or license tax upon every person, firm, or corporation engaging in the business of renting or furnishing any room or rooms, lodging, or accommodations to a transient in any hotel, motel, inn, tourist camp, tourist cabin, or any other place in which rooms, lodgings, or accommodations are regularly furnished to transients for a consideration. The amount of the tax shall be equal to four percent of the charge for the rooms, lodgings, or accommodations, including the charge for use or rental of personal property and services furnished in the room. The tax levied by this part, together with interest and penalties that may be imposed, shall constitute a debt due the City of Eufaula and may be collected by civil suit, in addition to all other methods provided by law and in this part.
