Section 45-27-120.01 Definitions. The following words and phrases when used in this article shall, for the purpose of this article, have meanings respectively ascribed to them in this section, except when the context otherwise requires: (1) APPOINTING AUTHORITY. All persons having the authority to hire employees for their department. (2) CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEE. An individual who is assigned to an ongoing position, full- or part-time, authorized by the county commission, and whose salary is paid with funds allocated by the county commission, regardless of the source of those funds, and who must initially complete a probationary period. (3) COUNTY. Escambia County, Alabama. (4) COUNTY COMMISSION. The governing body of Escambia County or any succeeding governing system that may be established. (5) DEPARTMENT. Personnel department. Section 45-49-120.22 Suspensions. (a) An appointing authority may suspend a regular employee whenever he or she considers the good of the service will be served thereby, for reasons stated in writing, served on the affected employee, and a copy furnished to the director, which action shall become public record. However, no employee may be suspended by the appointing authority for a period or periods in the aggregate of more than 30 days in any year of service. The suspended employee, within 10 days after notice, may appeal from the action of the appointing authority by filing a written answer to the charges.
