Section 45-34-84.81 Procedures governing noncollectible negotiable instruments. (a) In Henry County, when a negotiable instrument, such as a check or draft, given for a motor vehicle license, boat license, driver's license, privilege license, or conservation license is found to be noncollectible for any reason, the judge of probate, or his or her designee, shall notify the maker or drawer of the negotiable instrument in writing that payment of the negotiable instrument was refused by the drawee and that if the maker or drawer does not pay the holder thereof the amount due thereon within 10 days of the mailing of the notice to the maker or drawer, then the license shall be subject to retrieval or voided by the judge of probate without further notice. Section 45-7-83.16 Renewal of licenses by mail. The judge of probate may mail to any person to whom a motor vehicle license has been previously issued an application for renewal of a license required to be returned prior to the expiration date of the license. The application for renewal may be in the form of a postcard and shall contain sufficient information to adequately identify and process the renewal. The signature of the licensee on the application and proper remittance shall constitute sufficient authority for the judge of probate to issue the license and return the license to the licensee by mail. Section 45-19-82.21 Assessment and collection of motor vehicle taxes; commissions and fees. The judge of probate shall perform all duties relating to the assessment and collection of taxes on motor vehicles in the county, which have previously been performed by the revenue commissioner. The Revenue Commissioner of Coosa County is relieved of all duties and responsibilities relative to the assessment and collection of taxes on motor vehicles.
