Section 45-20-242.81 Levy of additional use tax. (a) This section shall only apply to Covington County. (b) All words, terms, and phrases as defined in Sections 40-23-60, 40-23-61, 40-23-62, and 40-23-63, providing for the levy of a state use tax shall wherever used in this section, have the same meanings respectively ascribed to them, in those sections except where the context herein clearly indicates a different meaning. (a) In addition to all other taxes imposed by law, there is hereby levied a privilege or license tax in the amount hereinafter prescribed against every person engaging in Greene County in the business of renting or furnishing any room or rooms, lodging, or accommodations, to any transient in any hotel, motel, inn, tourist court, or any other place in which rooms, lodgings, or accommodations are regularly furnished to transients for a consideration. (a) The Lowndes County Commission is hereby authorized to levy a privilege or license tax on all persons, firms, and corporations, selling, distributing, or delivering to retailers in Lowndes County, any malt or brewed beverages including beer, lager beer, ale, porter, or similar fermented malt liquor containing one-half of one percent or more of alcohol by volume, which tax shall be in an amount equal to one cent ($.01) on each 12 fluid ounces or fractional part thereof, sold or distributed within the county, including that sold or distributed within all municipalities located in the county. (a) Effective October 1, 2013, the 911 Fund shall be created as an insured interest-bearing account into which the 911 Board shall deposit all revenues derived from the service charge levied on voice communications service providers under this chapter and all prepaid wireless 911 charges received from the department. The revenues deposited into the 911 Fund shall not be monies or property of the state and shall not be subject to appropriation by the Legislature. All applications for motor vehicle tags by mail and the correct amount of taxes and fees shall be received by the county license commissioner, on or before the last regular work day before the 20th day of each month, and the commissioner shall mail such tag not later than the end of the same month.
