Section 41-10-729 Duties of department. It shall be the duty of the department to administer
this division. The department may adopt, amend, or rescind rules and employ persons, make
expenditures, require reports, make investigations, and take any other action as may be necessary
or suitable to that end. The same penalties, interest, lien, and criminal provisions of Chapters
1, 2A, and 18 of Title 40, shall apply to taxpayers failing to accurately compute and remit
the fee owed as established by this division to the department within the time set forth by

Section 40-2B-2 Alabama Tax Tribunal. (a) Statement of Purpose. To increase public confidence
in the fairness of the state tax system, the state shall provide an independent agency with
tax expertise to resolve disputes between the Department of Revenue and taxpayers, prior to
requiring the payment of the amounts in issue or the posting of a bond, but after the taxpayer
has had a full opportunity to attempt settlement with the Department of Revenue based, among
