Section 45-36-245 Levy of tax; exemptions; payment; recordkeeping; disposition of funds. (a) In addition to all other taxes imposed by law, the Jackson County Commission is hereby authorized to levy a privilege or license tax in an amount not to exceed two percent against every person engaging in Jackson County in the business of renting or furnishing any room or rooms, lodging, or accommodations, to any transient in any hotel, motel, inn, tourist court, or any other place in which rooms, lodgings, or accommodations are regularly furnished to transients for a consideration. The tax shall be levied upon the charge for such rooms, lodgings, or accommodations, including the charge for use of rental of personal property and services furnished in such room or rooms. Section 45-36-246 Levy and collection of tax. (a) There is levied from each producer of coal in Jackson County a privilege or license tax to be known as a severance tax. The rate of the tax shall be twenty cents ($.20) per ton of coal severed. (b) The tax herein levied shall be in addition to any state tax heretofore or hereafter imposed on the severance of coal, but shall be the only severance tax levied by the county on coal. One hundred percent of the net proceeds from such tax shall be deposited in a special fund known as the Coal Severance Tax Road Fund.
