Section 43-8-1 General definitions. Subject to additional definitions contained in the subsequent articles which are applicable to specific articles or divisions, and unless the context otherwise requires, in this chapter, the following words shall have the following meanings: (1) BENEFICIARY. As it relates to trust beneficiaries, includes a person who has any present or future interest, vested or contingent, and also includes the owner of an interest by assignment or other transfer and as it relates to a charitable trust, includes any person entitled to enforce the trust. (2) CHILD. Includes any individual entitled to take as a child under this chapter by intestate succession from the parent whose relationship is involved and excludes any person who is only a stepchild, a foster child, a grandchild or any more remote descendant. Section 10A-20-16.02 Definitions. The following terms shall have the following respective meanings for the purposes of this chapter: (1) OFFICER. Any officer, director, trustee, partner, manager, member, and governing person and other member of the governing authority of a qualified entity who does not receive compensation for serving in such capacity. Section 11-54B-8 Costs of supplemental services; assessment of classes; exemptions. (a) A self-help business improvement district ordinance shall provide that all costs of the supplemental services provided in a business improvement district will be financed through the levy of a special assessment on the owners of the real property located within the geographical area of the district and shall designate the method set forth in the plan as the method which will be used to determine the amount of such special assessment in a manner which fairly and equitably distributes the burden of financing the supplemental services among the real property owners in the district. (a) Except for subdivision (3) of Section 24-8-4, Sections 24-8-4 and 24-8-6 do not apply to rooms or units in dwellings containing living quarters occupied or intended to be occupied by no more than four families living independently of each other, if the owner actually maintains and occupies one of the living quarters as his or her residence.
