Section 40-29-75 False information with respect to withholding. (a) Civil penalty. In addition to any criminal penalty provided by law, if: (1) Any individual makes a statement under Section 40-18-73 which results in a decrease in the amounts deducted and withheld under Section 40-18-71; and (2) As of the time such statement was made, there was no reasonable basis for such statement, such individual shall pay a penalty of $500 for such statement. (b) Exception. The commissioner may waive (in whole or in part) the penalty imposed under subsection (a) if the taxes imposed with respect to the individual under Chapter 18 of this title for the taxable year are equal to or less than the sum of: (1) The credits against such taxes allowed by Sections 40-18-21, 40-18-120 and 40-18-121; and (2) The payments of estimated tax which are considered payments on account of such taxes. Section 25-4-51 Rates of contributions, etc., by employers. (a) Contributions. Except as hereinafter provided and subject to the provisions of Section 25-4-54, every employer shall pay contributions, or payments in lieu of contributions, equal to the percentages of wages payable or paid as hereinafter set out, with respect to employment by him. Section 40-2B-2 Alabama Tax Tribunal. (a) Statement of Purpose. To increase public confidence in the fairness of the state tax system, the state shall provide an independent agency with tax expertise to resolve disputes between the Department of Revenue and taxpayers, prior to requiring the payment of the amounts in issue or the posting of a bond, but after the taxpayer has had a full opportunity to attempt settlement with the Department of Revenue based, among other things, on the hazards of litigation. Section 27-29-10 Violations and penalties; criminal proceedings. (a) Any insurer failing, without just cause, to file any registration statement as required in this chapter shall be required, after notice and hearing, to pay a penalty of up to one thousand dollars ($1,000) for each day's delay, to be recovered by the commissioner and the penalty so recovered shall be paid into the state General Fund. The maximum penalty under this section is fifty thousand dollars ($50,000).
