Section 41-4-323 Purpose; employees; compensation and benefits; payment of expenses; implementation; additional duties of director. (a) The Office of Indigent Defense Services is established to carry out the administrative duties relating to the provision of indigent defense services. The director shall use existing employees of the Department of Finance and its existing offices, as assigned by the Director of Finance. The director's salary shall not exceed the state salary paid to a district attorney and be paid at the same time and in the same manner that salaries of other state employees are paid. The Director of the Office of Indigent Defense Services shall be entitled to annual and sick leave, insurance, retirement, and other state employee benefits, including cost-of-living raises authorized by the Legislature for state employees. Section 15-22-54 Period of probation; termination of probation; violation of terms of probation; sanctions. (a) The period of probation or suspension of execution of sentence shall be determined by the court and shall not be waived by the defendant, and the period of probation or suspension may be continued, extended, or terminated. However, except as provided in Section 32-5A-191 relating to ignition interlock requirements, in no case shall the maximum probation period of a defendant guilty of a misdemeanor exceed two years, nor shall the maximum probation period of a defendant guilty of a felony exceed five years, except as provided in Section 13A-8-2.1. (1) To solicit, encourage, and guide the development of quality public charter school applications, every local school board, in its role as public charter school authorizer, shall issue and broadly publicize a request for proposals for public charter school applications by July 17, 2015, and by November 1 in each subsequent year.
