Section 45-41-244.21 Exemptions; definitions. There are exempted from the levy of such taxes the gross receipts of any business and the gross proceeds of all sales which are exempted under the state sales tax statutes from the computation of the amount of the state sales tax. And there is also exempted from the levy the storage, use, or other consumption of property, the storage, use, or other consumption of which is exempted under the state use tax statutes from the state use tax. (a) For the purposes of this section, public assistance means money or property provided directly or indirectly to eligible persons through programs of the federal government, the state, or any political subdivision thereof, including any program administered by a public housing authority. All taxes, fees, interest, or penalties imposed and all amounts of tax herein required to be paid to the state under this article must be paid to the Department of Revenue at Montgomery, Alabama, with remittance payable to the Treasurer of Alabama.
