Section 35-12-71 Definitions. As used in this article, unless the context otherwise requires, the following terms shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them by this section: (1) APPARENT OWNER. A person whose name appears on the records of a holder as the person entitled to property held, issued, or owing by the holder. (2) BUSINESS ASSOCIATION. A corporation, joint stock company, investment company, partnership, unincorporated association, joint venture, limited liability company, business trust, trust company, safe deposit company, financial organization, insurance company, mutual fund, utility, or other business entity consisting of one or more persons, whether or not for profit. (3) DOMICILE. The state of incorporation of a corporation and the state of the principal place of business of a holder other than a corporation. (4) FINANCIAL ORGANIZATION. Section 40-18-140 Contribution designations. (a)(1) Each Alabama resident individual income taxpayer desiring to contribute to any of the programs listed in subsection (b) may designate an amount of his or her refund, rounded off in whole dollars, in an appropriate box on the state income tax return form, to be credited to the program. Section 16-6D-8 Tax credits; Failing Schools Income Tax Credit Account. (a) To provide educational flexibility and state accountability for students in failing schools: (1) For tax years beginning on and after January 1, 2013, an Alabama income tax credit is made available to the parent of a student enrolled in or assigned to attend a failing school to help offset the cost of transferring the student to a nonfailing public school or nonpublic school of the parent's choice. The income tax credit shall be an amount equal to 80 percent of the average annual state cost of attendance for a public K-12 student during the applicable tax year or the actual cost of attending a nonfailing public school or nonpublic school, whichever is less. Section 40-9F-33 Limitations on tax credits; Historic Income Tax Credit Account; transfer or assignment of tax credits. (a) The state portion of any tax credit against the tax imposed by Chapter 18 for the taxable year in which the certified rehabilitation is placed in service, shall be equal to 25 percent of the qualified rehabilitation expenditures for certified historic structures. Section 37-11C-4 Allowance and claim of tax credits; Railroad Rehabilitation Income Tax Credit Account; written transfer agreements. (a) For tax years beginning after December 31, 2019, there is a credit allowed against the state income tax levied by Section 40-18-2 equal to 50 percent of an eligible taxpayer's qualified railroad rehabilitation expenditures. Section 41-9-85.1 Definitions. As used in this division, the following terms shall have the following meanings: (1) CONVICTED INDIVIDUAL. An individual convicted of a specified crime or a representative of the individual. (2) EARNED INCOME. Income derived from an individual's own labor or active participation in a business. The term does not include income from dividends or investments. (3) FUNDS OF A CONVICTED INDIVIDUAL. Funds and property received from any source by a convicted individual. The term includes funds that a superintendent, sheriff, municipal official, or other correctional official receives on behalf of a convicted individual and deposits into the individual's inmate or prisoner account to the credit of the individual.
