of Revenue shall conduct annual searches of its records to determine if multiple individuals
have filed tax returns under the same Social Security number or the same individual tax identification
number. (b) If the department determines that multiple individuals have filed tax returns
under the same Social Security number or the same individual tax identification number, the
department shall further investigate the use of the Social Security numbers or individual

Section 40-1-2 Lien for taxes - Generally. (a) If any person liable to pay any tax, other than
ad valorem taxes, neglects or refuses to pay the same the amount, including any interest,
penalty, additional amount, or addition to such tax, together with any costs which may accrue

Section 40-7-26 Department of Revenue may act in advisory capacity; effect of approval of valuation
by department; nonapproved assessment docket. The Department of Revenue or the agents or assistants
thereof may work in an advisory capacity with the several county tax assessors of the state
in the assessment and valuation of property. Any valuation fixed by the tax assessor on any
property returned for taxation may be approved by the Department of Revenue, which approval,
if made, must be shown on each separate return so approved. When a tax return has been so
