Section 45-43-246.01 Privilege license and excise taxes. (a) The special county taxes levied pursuant to this subpart shall be privilege license and excise taxes in substance as follows: (1) Upon every person, firm, or corporation, not including the State of Alabama or the Alabama Alcoholic Beverage Control Board or ABC stores, engaged or continuing within Lowndes County in the business of selling at retail any tangible personal property whatsoever, including merchandise and commodities of every kind and character, not including, however, bonds or other evidence of debt or stocks, an amount equal to one percent of the gross proceeds of sales of the business except where a different amount is expressly provided herein. Section 40-17-371 Cost of collection; distribution of tax proceeds. (a) The Alabama Department of Revenue shall retain one-quarter of one percent (0.25%) of the tax proceeds, less any refunds, from this additional excise tax on gasoline and diesel fuel for its cost of collection. The department may adopt rules and such forms as may be necessary for the administration of the excise tax provided for in this article. (a)(1) Each Alabama resident individual income taxpayer desiring to contribute to any of the programs listed in subsection (b) may designate an amount of his or her refund, rounded off in whole dollars, in an appropriate box on the state income tax return form, to be credited to the program.
