Section 27-4A-3 Generally. (a) Subject to the exceptions and exemptions hereinafter set forth, for the year beginning on January 1, 1995, and for each year thereafter, every insurer shall pay to the commissioner a premium tax equal to the percentage, as set out in this subsection, of the premiums received by the insurer for business done in this state, whether the same was actually received by the insurer in this state or elsewhere: (1) PREMIUM TAX ON LIFE INSURANCE PREMIUMS. a. Section 41-4-33.1 State-owned surplus property transferred to volunteer fire departments; determination by Forestry Commission; approval by department; penalty for unauthorized use; final disposition of property. (a) All surplus property owned by the state to be disposed of by sale at auction by the Finance Department shall first be screened by the Forestry Commission to determine if such property may be of use by volunteer fire departments for specific use in fire suppression activities. If the Forestry Commission finds such property to be useful for such purposes, then, with the approval of the state Finance Director, such property shall be transferred to the Forestry Commission. (a) In Macon County, the Little Texas Volunteer Fire Department may assess and collect a service charge by action of the board on all property served by the department for fire protection services. The service charge shall not exceed seven and one-half percent of the total ad valorem taxes due and payable on the property on an annual basis. The proceeds of the service charge shall be used solely for equipment and expenses relating to the delivery of fire protection services and operation of the volunteer fire department. (a) The governing body of the City of Citronelle shall designate the volunteer fire department serving the city and a historical society as the official volunteer fire department and the official historical society for the purposes of this section.
