Section 45-4-243.40 Additional ad valorem tax; disposition of funds. (a) The following words and phrases used in this section, and others evidently intended as the equivalent thereof, shall, in the absence of a clear implication herein otherwise, be given the following respective interpretations herein: (1) "Amendment No. 3" means that certain amendment to the constitution that was proposed by Act No. 60 enacted at the 1915 Regular Session of the Legislature of Alabama. (2) "Amendment No. 373" means that certain amendment to the constitution that was proposed by Act No. 6 enacted at the 1978 Second Special Session of the Legislature of Alabama. (a) In order to provide funds for the operation of the public schools in School District One, Madison County, the governing body of Madison County is hereby authorized by ordinance to levy and provide for the collection of a one percent sales and use tax in School District One, Madison County, which shall be in addition to any and all other county taxes heretofore or hereafter authorized by law in School District One, Madison County. (a) At any time after three years after the organization of a district under the provisions of this article, any 25 owners of land lying within the boundaries of such district may file a petition with the State Soil and Water Conservation Committee praying that the operations of the district be terminated and the existence of the district discontinued.
