Section 27-50-3 Health benefit plan. As used in this chapter, the term "health benefit
plan" has the following meaning: A health insurance policy, including a self-insured
health plan, that covers hospital, medical, or surgical expenses, health maintenance organizations,
preferred provider organizations, medical service organizations, physician-hospital organizations,
or any other person, firm, corporation, joint venture, or other similar business entity that
pays for, purchases, or furnishes health care services to patients, insureds, or beneficiaries
in this state. The term does not include accident-only, specified disease, individual hospital
indemnity, credit, dental-only, Medicare-supplement, long-term care, or disability income
insurance; coverage issued as a supplement to liability insurance, workers' compensation or

Section 38-12-32 Definitions. As used in this article, the following terms shall have the following
meanings: (1) CAREGIVER. An individual 21 years of age or older, other than a child's parent,
legal guardian, or legal custodian who is an approved foster parent, who is a relative of
the child, and who has been providing care and support for the child while the child has been
residing in the caregiver's home for at least the last six consecutive months while in the
legal custody of the Department of Human Resources, a designated official for a child-placing
agency, or a successor guardian. (2) CHILD. An individual under 18 years of age who is in
foster care with the caregiver and over whom a court has exercised continuing jurisdiction.

Section 22-8A-9 Withholding or withdrawal of treatment, etc., not suicide; execution of advance
directive not to affect sale, etc., of life or health insurance nor be condition for receipt
of treatment, etc.; provisions of chapter cumulative. (a) The withholding or withdrawal of
life-sustaining treatment or artificially provided nutrition and hydration from a patient
in accordance with the provisions of this chapter shall not, for any purpose, constitute a
