Section 40-8-1 Classification of property; assessment rate. (a) On and after October 1, 1978, with respect to ad valorem taxes levied by the state, and, unless otherwise provided, with respect to ad valorem taxes levied by a county, municipality, or other taxing authority other than the state, all taxable property shall be divided into the following classes and no other and shall be assessed for ad valorem tax purposes at the following ratios of assessed value to the fair and reasonable market value of such property, or, as may be provided by law, to the current use value of such property: CLASS I. Section 45-48-121.11 Removal, discharge, or demotion of employee; proceedings; appeal. (a) The county commission, any member of the governing body, or the head of any department or office, respectively, can remove, discharge, or demote any merit employee who is directly under such governing body, member thereof, or department head, provided that within five calendar days a report in writing of such action is made to the board and employee, giving the reason for such removal, discharge, or demotion. The employee shall have 10 calendar days from the time of notification of his or her discharge, removal, or demotion in which to appeal to the board. (a) All credit card banks organized under the laws of this state shall be subject to the supervision, regulation, and examination of the superintendent and the superintendent shall have all enforcement powers with respect thereto as are provided in this title. (a)(1) The State Board of Medical Examiners on its own motion may investigate any evidence which appears to show that a physician or osteopath holding a certificate of qualification to practice medicine or osteopathy in the State of Alabama is or may be guilty of any of the acts, offenses, or conditions set out in Section 34-24-360. As part of its investigation, the board may require a criminal history background check of the physician or osteopath. In such event, the physician or osteopath shall submit a complete set of fingerprints to the State Board of Medical Examiners.
