Section 37-3-23 Bills of lading. Every common carrier by motor vehicle subject to the provisions
of this chapter receiving property for transportation originating and terminating in this
state shall issue to the shipper a receipt or bill of lading therefor and shall be liable
as a common carrier under the laws of this state to the lawful holder thereof for any loss,
damage or injury to such property caused by it; and no contract, stipulation, receipt, rule
or regulation contained in said receipt or bill of lading, or otherwise, shall exempt such
common carrier from the liability hereby imposed; but nothing in this section shall deprive
any holder of such receipt or bill of lading of any remedy or right of action which he has
under existing law. Every bill of lading so issued to the shipper shall state the class or
classes of freight or express shipped and the rate to the point of destination and the aggregate

Section 7-7-102 Definitions and index of definitions. (a) In this article, unless the context
otherwise requires: (1) "Bailee" means a person that by a warehouse receipt, bill
of lading, or other document of title acknowledges possession of goods and contracts to deliver
them. (2) A "carrier" means a person that issues a bill of lading. (3) "Consignee"

Section 8-22-4 Definitions. The following terms shall have the meanings ascribed to them in
this section unless otherwise stated and unless the context or subject matter clearly indicates
otherwise: (1) PERSON. Any person, firm, association, organization, partnership, business

Section 37-2-15 Special rates. (a) The Public Service Commission, upon its own motion or upon
the written application of any transportation company, and under any rules which it may prescribe,
may permit, from time to time, such transportation company to establish any special rate or
rates for the transportation of specific commodities in carloads from specified points or
within specified zones or distances to the plants or points of destination where are located
the plants of any person, firm or corporation who is now, or may hereafter be, engaged in

Section 37-2-62 Action for damages. (a) If the value of such goods, property or chattels so
lost, destroyed or not delivered, or the amount of damages or injury, where injured, shall

Section 28-4-113 Acceptance for or shipment, transportation, delivery, etc., of prohibited
liquors or beverages from point to point or along public streets or highways within state.
It shall be unlawful for any person, firm, corporation or association, whether a common carrier
