Section 16-25-11.18 Purchase of credit for prior service with United States Civil Service. (a) Any active and contributing member of the Teachers' Retirement System or the Employees' Retirement System may elect to purchase prior service credit in the system for employment that the member had with the United States Civil Service at any military base of the United States or as a graduate teaching assistant or graduate research assistant at any public college or university in Alabama, if the employment service occurred prior to January 1, 1976, and if the member complies with the conditions prescribed in subsection (b). Section 36-27-6.5 Employers authorized to provide Tier I retirement benefits to Tier II plan members. (a) Any employer participating in the Employees' Retirement System of Alabama pursuant to Section 36-27-6, may, by adoption of a resolution by May 8, 2021, elect to provide to its Tier II plan members the same retirement benefits provided to Tier I plan members.
