Section 16-25-6 Employees of Agricultural Experiment Station of Auburn University. (a) All persons now employed in an administrative or research capacity by the Agricultural Experiment Station of Auburn University may become members of the Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama; provided, that such person elects to accept the benefits of this chapter within six months after October 1, 1951. Such persons may signify their desire to become members of the Teachers' Retirement System by filing written notice with the Secretary-Treasurer of the Teachers' Retirement System within said six months' period. Any person hereafter employed in such capacity shall be deemed to be a teacher within the meaning of this chapter and shall be entitled to the benefits thereof. (a) Any clerk or register of the circuit court shall be subject to the terms of this division unless he or she notifies the Administrative Director of Courts in writing to the contrary 30 days subsequent to October 1, 1995. To increase public confidence in the fairness of the state tax system, the state shall provide an independent agency with tax expertise to resolve disputes between the Department of Revenue and taxpayers, prior to requiring the payment of the amounts in issue or the posting of a bond, but after the taxpayer has had a full opportunity to attempt settlement with the Department of Revenue based, among other things, on the hazards of litigation.
