Section 27-15-28.1 Standard nonforfeiture law for individual deferred annuities - Annuity contracts issued by election under this section until June 30, 2006. (a) In the event of the death of a married employee and if at the time of such death the employee (1) is in the active employment of the city, or (2) is receiving a pension either for disability or for longevity from the city a pension shall be paid to his or her spouse. (a) As governed by this subsection, there exists as a part of this retirement system, an optional account known as the Deferred Retirement Option Plan, which may be cited as "DROP." Section 36-21-189 Retirement annuity. (a) Any member, at any time after reaching the age of 62 and completion of at least 25 years' qualified service, shall be entitled to an annuity benefit. (b) The amount of the monthly benefit shall be determined by the board in an amount recommended by the actuary for the fund.
