Section 41-27-2 Secretary - Functions; appointment; compensation; qualifications. (a) The position of Secretary of the Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency is created. The secretary shall serve as the appointing authority and executive head of the agency and the appointing authority and department head of the Department of Public Safety and State Bureau of Investigations. The secretary may delegate all or part of the functions of appointing authority and department head for the department and bureau to the Director of the Department of Public Safety and the Director of the State Bureau of Investigations, respectively. (b)(1) The secretary shall be appointed by and hold office at the pleasure of the Governor, and shall serve until his or her successor is appointed. Section 45-49-120.07 Personnel director. The board shall elect and fix the salary of the director who shall hold office at the will of the board. The board shall prescribe qualifications as to residence, education, and experience as may be necessary in its opinion to fill the position of director. Section 36-26-28 Suspensions. (a) An appointing authority may peremptorily suspend any employee without pay or other compensation as punishment for improper behavior, but the suspension or total suspension by the appointing authority of the person shall not exceed 30 business days in any year of service.
