Section 34-9-19.1 Advertising - Dental referral service; requirements; prohibitions; penalties. (a) For purposes of this section, the following words shall have the following meanings: (1) ADVERTISEMENT. Information communicated in a manner designed to attract public attention to a referral service, participating dentist, or a practice of dentistry. (2) DENTAL REFERRAL SERVICE. A person, firm, partnership, association, corporation, agent, or employee of any of the foregoing that engages in any business or service for profit that in whole or in part includes the referral or recommendation of persons to a dentist for any form of dental care or treatment. (3) DENTIST. Any person licensed to practice dentistry or any entity authorized by law which is formed for the purpose of practicing dentistry. It is the duty of the building official, or other authority charged with the duty, of issuing building or similar permits, of any incorporated municipality or subdivision of the municipality or county, to refuse to issue a permit for any undertaking which would require a license hereunder unless the applicant has furnished evidence that he or she is either licensed as required by this chapter or is exempt from the requirements of this chapter. (a) Any person who practices as an interpreter or transliterator for remuneration on August 1, 1998, but who does not otherwise meet the requirements for licensure, may obtain a renewable permit to practice interpretation or transliteration.
