Section 40-12-264 Time limit for purchase of tags or plates; dealer plates; manufacturer plates. (a) Any person, including a motor vehicle dealer, acquiring a new or used motor vehicle may be granted a grace period of 20 calendar days from date of acquisition to procure a license tag or plate. (b) Notwithstanding Section 32-6-65, a new or used motor vehicle dealer who has a current regulatory license required under this article and a dealer license as required by Section 40-12-51 or Section 40-12-169 may purchase dealer license plates from the department upon presentation of the current licenses and payment of the fee for a private passenger automobile as provided in subdivision (1) of subsection (a) of Section 40-12-242 and subsection (a) of Section 40-12-273 per dealer plate. (b) No person shall engage in or carry out on lands within the state any surface coal mining operations unless such person is a citizen of the United States or, if not a citizen of the United States, a person who is legally present in the United States with appropriate documentation from the federal government and has first obtained a license in accordance with this section. (a) Every person, except those specifically exempted by statutory enactment, within five years from April 28, 1994, shall procure a boater safety certification before operating a motorized vessel upon the waters of this state, as defined in Section 33-5-3. This section shall not apply to any sailboat, rowboat, or canoe. (a) An operator's license issued under this chapter, whether for horse racing and pari-mutuel wagering thereon or for greyhound racing and pari-mutuel wagering thereon, shall be for an initial period of 20 years, but shall be subject to renewal as provided in this section.
