Section 34-22-20 Qualifications of applicants; examination; issuance and execution of licenses; use of pharmaceutical agents. (a) Every person desiring to practice optometry in this state shall be 19 years of age, or over, a citizen of the United States or, if not a citizen of the United States, a person who is legally present in the United States with appropriate documentation from the federal government, and of good moral character. The person shall have a minimum of three years of preoptometry, or the equivalent, at an accredited college or university, have completed a course of study in an accredited school or college of optometry which is approved by the board and that requires at least four years of professional study, and have passed all examinations prescribed by the board, which may include the standard examination after completion of the educational requirements. (a) The following annual license taxes and registration fees are hereby imposed and shall be charged for each trailer, other than manufactured homes, operated on the public highways of this state: (1) For each privately owned utility trailer or travel trailer, which is not operated for hire, lease, or rental, twelve dollars ($12). (2) For each utility trailer, rented or leased for compensation of any kind or nature, fifteen dollars ($15). (a) The department shall suspend the vehicle registration of any motor vehicle determined to be in violation of Section 32-7A-4, including any motor vehicle operated in violation of Section 32-7A-16 by an operator other than the owner of the vehicle. Neither the fact that, subsequent to the date of verification or violation, the owner acquired the required liability insurance policy nor the fact that the owner terminated ownership of the motor vehicle shall have any bearing upon the required suspension.
