Section 34-22-42 Powers and duties generally. The board shall exercise and perform, subject to this chapter, each of the following powers and duties: (1) Conduct examinations at least once each year to ascertain the qualifications and fitness of applicants for licenses to practice optometry. (2) Prescribe rules and regulations for conducting and administering an examination of applicants for licensing as optometrists and to effectuate this chapter. (3) Institute, upon a complaint or petition, hearings of charges against licensed optometrists or other persons as provided in this chapter. (4) Institute legal proceedings for violations of this chapter. (5) Grant and deny licenses in conformity with this chapter, including applications for approval to use pharmaceutical agents. Section 34-27B-4 State Board of Respiratory Therapy - Functions. The board shall perform the following functions: (1) Set respiratory therapy licensure fees, including, but not limited to, application, initial, renewal, and reinstatement fees. Section 34-21A-18 Annual renewal of license. (a) A license is only valid during the calendar year indicated on the license. At the end of that calendar year, the license will expire unless it is renewed by the licensee. All licensees shall make application for license renewal at least 30 days prior to the expiration of a current license. (b) Specific license renewal application forms and license renewal requirements shall be developed by the board. License renewal requirements shall include, but not be limited to, continuing education and training requirements for each level and type of license and evidence of adequate bond. (a) No person shall practice dentistry or dental hygiene in the State of Alabama unless licensed or permitted by the board and registered annually as required by this chapter. Section 34-14A-15 Recovery fund. (a) The board may establish a Homeowners' Recovery Fund for the purpose of consumer protection, consumer education, and consumer awareness. An aggrieved homeowner may recover actual economic damages, not including interest and court costs, sustained within the state as the direct result of conduct of a licensee in violation of this chapter or the rules of the board from the Homeowners' Recovery Fund.
