Section 34-21-20 Required generally. In order to safeguard life and health, any person practicing or offering to practice professional nursing or practical nursing in this state, for compensation, shall hereafter be required to submit evidence that he or she is qualified so to practice and shall be licensed as hereinafter provided. After January 1, 1968, it shall be unlawful for any person not licensed under the provisions hereof to practice or offer to practice professional nursing, for compensation, in this state. After January 1, 1971, it shall be unlawful for any person not licensed under the provisions hereof to practice or offer to practice practical nursing, for compensation, in this state. It shall be unlawful for any person employed for compensation and not licensed under the provisions hereof to use any sign, card, or device to indicate that such person is a professional registered nurse or a licensed practical nurse. Section 34-21-2 Board of Nursing generally. (a) There is created the Board of Nursing, which shall be composed of 13 members to be appointed and have the duties and powers enumerated in this section. The membership of the board shall be inclusive and reflect the racial, gender, geographic, urban/rural, and economic diversity of the state. In order to insure continuity of administration, the nine board members provided for by Section 3 of Act 427, Regular Session 1975, shall continue to serve to the completion of the term for which they are serving.
