Section 12-17-227.5 (Effective November 8, 2016, subject to contingencies) Disability retirement
allowance. (a) Upon application of an active and contributing member, any such member who
has 10 or more years of membership service who becomes disabled may be retired on a disability
retirement allowance by the Board of Control not less than 30 days nor more than 90 days next
following the date of filing of such application; provided that the medical board, after a
medical examination of such member, shall certify that such individual is totally and permanently
mentally or physically incapacitated from regular and substantial gainful employment and that
such member should be retired. (b) Upon retirement for disability, the member shall receive
a service retirement allowance if he or she has attained age 62; otherwise, he or she shall
receive a disability retirement allowance which shall consist of an annuity, which shall be

(a)(1) There is established in determined geographic regions of the state one or more autism
centers whose purpose is to provide nonresidential resource and training services for persons
of all ages and of all levels of intellectual functioning who have any of the following: a.
Autism. b. A pervasive developmental disorder that is not otherwise specified. c. As determined
by the Alabama Interagency Autism Coordinating Council, other disability populations which
may receive benefit from the services and activities of the regional centers. (2) Each center

Every person licensed to practice medicine or osteopathy in the State of Alabama shall, on

Section 32-5A-191.4 Ignition interlock devices. (a) As used in Section 32-5A-191, the term,
"ignition interlock device" means a constant monitoring device that prevents a motor
vehicle from being started at any time without first determining the equivalent blood alcohol
level of the operator through the taking of a breath sample for testing. The system shall
be calibrated so that the motor vehicle may not be started if the blood alcohol level of the
operator, as measured by the test, reaches a blood alcohol concentration level of 0.02. (b)
