Section 45-37-40.04 License - Application; hearings; appeals; fees. (a) Every applicant for a barbers license, apprentice barbers license, barber teacher license, scalp specialist license, or a license to operate a barber shop or barbers college, or other like business, shall apply therefor in writing on blanks prepared or furnished by the barbers commission. It shall be accompanied by the recommendation of at least two barbers doing business in the county, not related to the applicant, certifying that the applicant is of good reputation, is qualified to practice the profession of barbering, and recommending that a license be granted. The application shall be accompanied by the application fee hereinafter provided, and a certificate of a reputable doctor certifying that the applicant has no communicable, contagious, or infectious disease. (a)(1) A firm that practices or offers to practice engineering or land surveying is required to obtain a certificate of authorization from the board in accordance with rules adopted by the board. Section 34-24-361 Investigations; reporting offenses; proceedings and actions; privileged information. (a)(1) The State Board of Medical Examiners on its own motion may investigate any evidence which appears to show that a physician or osteopath holding a certificate of qualification to practice medicine or osteopathy in the State of Alabama is or may be guilty of any of the acts, offenses, or conditions set out in Section 34-24-360. As part of its investigation, the board may require a criminal history background check of the physician or osteopath. In such event, the physician or osteopath shall submit a complete set of fingerprints to the State Board of Medical Examiners.
