Section 32-6-64 License plate design; numbering, sponsoring, and manufacturing of license plates; release of personal information. (a)(1) The design of license plates, including all emblems, slogans, symbols, or characters appearing on the plates, shall be by rule as promulgated by the Commissioner of Revenue, and as otherwise specified by law. The face of the license plate to be displayed shall be fully treated with a reflective material which will increase the nighttime visibility and legibility of the plate. (2) Characters on the license plate which designate the county of issuance shall be numeric, and all numerals on the license plates shall be no smaller than two and three-fourths inches in height. Section 32-6-350 Legislative intent. (a) It is the intent of the Legislature to establish an Alabama Veteran Tag Program to recognize certain veterans. (b) The owner of a motor vehicle who is a resident of this state and who is an eligible veteran pursuant to subsection (c) of this section may be issued a distinctive license tag pursuant to this division. The veteran shall make application to the judge of probate or commissioner of licenses, comply with state motor vehicle laws relating to registration and licensing of motor vehicles, pay the regular license fee for a tag as provided by law for a private passenger or pleasure motor vehicle, and pay an additional fee of three dollars ($3) for the initial issuance of the tag except a Vietnam veteran's tag. Section 32-6-64.1 Manufacture and distribution of license plates by third party; funding. (a) Notwithstanding any other provision of this title, the Department of Revenue may contract with a third party to manufacture and distribute license plates and validation decals. (b) The amount distributed prior to April 8, 2014, to the Department of Corrections relating to license plates and decals for each fiscal year shall not be reduced except by the amount of the cost of material, production, and distribution of license plates which would have been incurred if the plates were produced by the Department of Corrections.
