Section 32-6-111 Preparation; issuance; proof to be submitted by applicant; use. The distinctive
license plates provided for in this division shall be prepared by the Commissioner of Revenue
and shall be issued through the judge of probate or license commissioner of the several counties
of the state in like manner as are other motor vehicle license plates or tags, and such officers
shall be entitled to their regular fees for such service. Applicants for such distinctive
plates shall present to the issuing official proof of their membership in the National Guard
or Air National Guard of Alabama by means of certificate signed by the commanding officer
of such applicant on forms prescribed by the Adjutant General of Alabama. The distinctive

Section 32-6-213 Probate judge or county official may issue temporary tags and certificates.
Each judge of probate of this state or other county official in this state authorized and
required by law to issue motor vehicle license tags shall have the authority, upon proper
request, to issue a temporary license tag and a temporary registration certificate to the
owner of a motor vehicle to be licensed in this state when, due to circumstances, a permanent
license tag cannot immediately be issued or when, in the judgment of the probate judge or
other county official authorized and required by law to issue motor vehicle license tags,
just cause exists for the issuance of such temporary license tag and registration certificate.
The temporary license tag provided for herein shall be of a color or design distinctive from

Section 32-6-51 Rear tags required. Every motor vehicle operator who operates a motor vehicle
upon any city street or other public highway of or in this state shall at all times keep attached
and plainly visible on the rear end of such motor vehicle a license tag or license plate as
prescribed and furnished by the Department of Revenue at the time the owner or operator purchases
his license. Anyone violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor
and shall, upon conviction, be punished by fine not exceeding $500.00 and, in addition thereto,

Effective January 1, 1998, license plates, except for license plates issued under the provisions
of Section 40-12-290, et seq., or any subsequent enactment which authorizes special license
