Section 32-1-1.1 Definitions. The following words and phrases when used in this title, for
the purpose of this title, shall have meanings respectively ascribed to them in this section,
except when the context otherwise requires: (1) ALLEY. A street or highway intended to provide
access to the rear or side of lots or buildings in urban districts and not intended for the
purpose of through vehicular traffic. (2) ARTERIAL STREET. Any United States or state numbered
route, controlled-access highway, or other major radial or circumferential street or highway
designated by local authorities within their respective jurisdictions as part of a major arterial

Section 32-5A-211 Pedestrians' right-of-way in crosswalks. (a) When traffic-control signals
are not in place or not in operation the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-of-way,
slowing down or stopping if need be to so yield, to a pedestrian crossing the roadway within
a crosswalk when the pedestrian is upon the half of the roadway upon which the vehicle is
traveling, or when the pedestrian is approaching so closely from the opposite half of the
roadway as to be in danger. (b) No pedestrian shall suddenly leave a curb or other place of
safety and walk or run into the path of a vehicle which is so close as to constitute an immediate

Section 32-5A-112 Vehicle entering stop or yield intersection; collision as prima facie evidence
of failure to yield. (a) Preferential right-of-way at an intersection may be indicated by
stop signs or yield signs as authorized in Section 32-5A-113. (b) Except when directed to
proceed by a police officer every driver of a vehicle approaching a stop sign shall stop at
a clearly marked stop line, but if none, before entering the crosswalk on the near side of
