Section 12-25-32 Definitions. For the purposes of this article, the following terms have the
following meanings: (1) COMMISSION. The Alabama Sentencing Commission, established as a state
agency under the Supreme Court by this chapter. (2) CONTINUUM OF PUNISHMENTS. An array of
punishment options, from probation to incarceration, graduated in restrictiveness according
to the degree of supervision of the offender including, but not limited to, all of the following:
a. Active Incarceration. A sentence, other than an intermediate punishment or unsupervised
probation, that requires an offender to serve a sentence of imprisonment. The term includes
time served in a work release program operated as a custody option by the Alabama Department
of Corrections or in the Supervised Intensive Restitution program of the Department of Corrections
pursuant to Article 7, commencing with Section 15-18-110, of Chapter 18 of Title 15. b. Intermediate

Section 26-10A-33 Crime to place children for adoption. Only a parent, a parent of a deceased
parent, or a relative of the degree of relationship specified in Section 26-10A-28, the Department
of Human Resources or a licensed child placing agency, or an agency approved by the Department
of Human Resources may place a minor for adoption. No person or entity other than the Department
of Human Resources or a licensed child placing agency shall engage in the business of placing
minors for adoption. Any person or entity making more than two unrelated placements of minors
for adoption within the preceding twelve-month period shall be deemed to be in the business
of placing minors for adoption. Any other person who places a minor for adoption is guilty,
upon the first conviction, of a Class A misdemeanor and upon subsequent convictions is guilty

Section 8-6-2 Definitions. When used in this article, unless the context otherwise requires,
the following terms shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them by this section:

Section 23-2-142 Definitions. As used in this article, the following words and terms shall

(1) AUTHORITY. The Alabama Toll Road, Bridge, and Tunnel Authority created by this article,
