Section 26-2B-102 Definitions. In this chapter, the following terms shall have the following meanings: (1) ADULT. An individual who has attained 19 years of age or who by statute has otherwise been deemed to be an adult under the laws of the State of Alabama or the laws of another state. (2) CONSERVATOR. A person appointed by the court to administer the property of an adult, including a person appointed under Section 26-2A-20 of the Alabama Uniform Guardianship and Protective Proceedings Act. (3) COURT. A probate court of this state and includes an appropriate court of another state. (4) GUARDIAN. A person appointed by the court to make decisions regarding the person of an adult, including a person appointed under Section 26-2A-20 of the Alabama Uniform Guardianship and Protective Proceedings Act. The Interstate Compact on the Placement of Children is hereby enacted into law and entered into with all other jurisdictions legally joining therein in form substantially as follows: Article I. Purpose and Policy. It is the purpose and policy of the party states to cooperate with each other in the interstate placement of children to the end that: (a) Each child requiring placement shall receive the maximum opportunity to be placed in a suitable environment and with persons or institutions having appropriate qualifications and facilities to provide a necessary and desirable degree and type of care. Section 8-19-4 Enforcement (a) The office of the Attorney General and the district attorneys shall have the following functions, powers, and duties: (1) Conduct preliminary investigations to determine the merit of complaints, provided, however, the office of the Attorney General or the district attorneys need not handle any complaint which lacks merit, has been made in bad faith, or may be readily resolved between the parties.
