Section 3-9-1 Definitions. As used in this chapter, the following words shall have the following meanings: (1) ANIMAL SHELTER. Any facility operated by or under contract for the state or any county, municipal corporation, or other political subdivision of the state for the purpose of impounding or harboring seized, stray, homeless, abandoned, or unwanted dogs, cats, and other animals; any veterinary hospital or clinic operated by a veterinarian or veterinarians which operates for such purpose in addition to its customary purposes; and any facility operated, owned, or maintained by a duly incorporated humane society, animal welfare organization, or other nonprofit organization for the purpose of providing for and promoting the welfare, protection, and humane treatment of animals. (2) ANIMAL WELFARE ORGANIZATION. Any unincorporated nonprofit organization or business entity existing for fostering and adopting dogs and cats by the public. (3) SEXUALLY MATURE ANIMAL. Section 37-3-23 Bills of lading. Every common carrier by motor vehicle subject to the provisions of this chapter receiving property for transportation originating and terminating in this state shall issue to the shipper a receipt or bill of lading therefor and shall be liable as a common carrier under the laws of this state to the lawful holder thereof for any loss, damage or injury to such property caused by it; and no contract, stipulation, receipt, rule or regulation contained in said receipt or bill of lading, or otherwise, shall exempt such common carrier from the liability hereby imposed; but nothing in this section shall deprive any holder of such receipt or bill of lading of any remedy or right of action which he has under existing law. Section 23-8-2 Legislative findings. The Legislature finds all of the following: (a) That consistent with the constitutional mandate that navigable waterways are public highways, the Legislature hereby finds as a fact that a portion of the gasoline and diesel fuel sold in this state is used for marine purposes to propel vessels on coastal and inland waterways of this state. Section 32-9-20 Schedule of restrictions. (a) It shall be unlawful for any person to drive or move on any highway in this state any vehicle or vehicles of a size or weight except in accordance with the following: (1) WIDTH. Section 9-13-224 Notice to creditors; institution of condemnation proceedings; legal title to equipment. At least 60 days prior to the institution of condemnation proceedings as herein provided, notice shall be given by the court to any creditor who is known to have a secured interest, a judgment, lien or other interest in any vehicle or equipment seized pursuant to this article. Such creditors may claim their property during said 60-day period. Thereafter, the district attorney or other prosecuting officer of the judicial circuit upon receiving such report shall at once institute, or cause to be instituted, condemnation proceedings in the circuit court, in the same manner that he is directed by law to institute proceedings for the condemnation and forfeiture of automobiles and other vehicles used in the illegal transportation of alcoholic beverages.
