Section 27-9A-16 Reporting of actions. (a) An independent adjuster shall report to the commissioner any administrative action taken against the independent adjuster by a governmental agency in another jurisdiction or by another governmental agency in this state within 30 days of the final disposition of the matter. This report shall include a copy of the order, consent order, and any other relevant legal documents. (b) Within 30 days of the initial pretrial hearing date, an independent adjuster shall report to the commissioner any criminal action taken against the independent adjuster in this or any jurisdiction. To increase public confidence in the fairness of the state tax system, the state shall provide an independent agency with tax expertise to resolve disputes between the Department of Revenue and taxpayers, prior to requiring the payment of the amounts in issue or the posting of a bond, but after the taxpayer has had a full opportunity to attempt settlement with the Department of Revenue based, among other things, on the hazards of litigation.
