Section 27-9-1 "Adjuster" defined. Repealed by Act 2011-637, §3, effective January 1, 2012. (a) An "adjuster" is a person who, for compensation as an independent contractor, or as the employee of such an independent contractor or for fee or commission, investigates and negotiates settlement of claims arising under insurance contracts on behalf of the insurer. Section 27-9A-3 Independent adjuster defined; exclusions. (a) For purposes of this chapter, an "independent adjuster" is a person who, for compensation as an independent contractor or as an employee of an independent contractor, undertakes on behalf of an insurer to ascertain and determine the amount of any claim, loss, or damage payable under a contract of property, casualty, or workers' compensation insurance or to effect settlement of such claim, loss, or damage. (a) For the purposes of this section, public assistance means money or property provided directly or indirectly to eligible persons through programs of the federal government, the state, or any political subdivision thereof, including any program administered by a public housing authority.
