Section 27-7-1 Definitions. For the purposes of this chapter, the following terms shall have the meanings respectively ascribed to them by this section: (1) BUSINESS ENTITY. A corporation, association, partnership, limited liability company, limited liability partnership, or other legal entity. (2) COMMISSIONER. The Alabama Commissioner of Insurance. (3) HOME STATE. The District of Columbia and any state or territory of the United States in which an insurance producer maintains his or her principal place of residence or principal place of business and is licensed to act as an insurance producer. (4) INSURANCE. As defined in Section 27-1-2. (5) INSURANCE PRODUCER or PRODUCER. A person required to be licensed under the laws of this state to sell, solicit, or negotiate insurance. (6) INSURER. Section 27-44-9 Assessments. (a) For the purpose of providing the funds necessary to carry out the powers and duties of the association, the board of directors shall assess the member insurers, separately for each account, at such time and for such amounts as the board finds necessary. Assessments shall be due not less than 30 days after prior written notice to the member insurers and shall accrue interest at six percent per annum on and after the due date. Section 27-17A-34 Disbursement of funds. (a) Disbursement of funds discharging any preneed contract for funeral services or funeral merchandise fulfilled after May 1, 2002, shall be made by the trustee to the certificate holder upon receipt by the trustee of a certification of the certificate holder that the preneed contract has been performed in whole or in part or the preneed contract has been cancelled.
