Section 27-29-3.1 Acquisition involving change in control of insurer authorized to do business in Alabama; pre-acquisition notification; violation of competitive standards. (a) The following definitions shall apply for the purposes of this section only: (1) ACQUISITION. Any agreement or arrangement the consummation of which results in a person acquiring directly or indirectly the control of another person, and includes, but is not limited to, the acquisition of voting securities, the acquisition of assets, bulk reinsurance, and mergers. (2) INVOLVED INSURER. Includes an insurer which either acquires or is acquired, is affiliated with an acquirer or acquired, or is the result of a merger. (b)(1) Except as exempted in subdivision (2), this section applies to any acquisition in which there is a change in control of an insurer authorized to do business in this state. Section 32-7A-12 Suspension of registration. (a) The department shall suspend the vehicle registration of any motor vehicle determined to be in violation of Section 32-7A-4, including any motor vehicle operated in violation of Section 32-7A-16 by an operator other than the owner of the vehicle. Neither the fact that, subsequent to the date of verification or violation, the owner acquired the required liability insurance policy nor the fact that the owner terminated ownership of the motor vehicle shall have any bearing upon the required suspension. (b) The registration of any motor vehicle registered in this state shall be suspended upon the department receiving notice of the conviction of the operator of the motor vehicle in another state of an offense which, if committed in this state, would constitute a violation of Section 32-7A-4. Section 8-32-3 Requirements for selling or offering to sell service contracts. (a) Either the provider or its designee shall: (1) Provide a receipt for, or other written evidence of, the purchase of the service contract to the contract holder. (2) Provide a copy of the service contract to the service contract holder within a reasonable period of time from the date of purchase. (b) A provider may, but is not required to, appoint an administrator or other designee to be responsible for any or all of the administration of service contracts and compliance with this chapter. (c) Each provider of service contracts sold in this state shall file a registration with the commissioner on a form prescribed by the commissioner. Section 27-36A-20 Small company alternative valuation. (a) A company calculating reserves under this section shall calculate reserves for ordinary life insurance, accident and health insurance contracts, credit life contracts, group life contracts, annuities, or deposit-type contracts in this state as if the policies were issued before the operative date of the valuation manual. For such policies issued after the operative date of the valuation manual, any mortality and interest rates defined by the valuation manual for net premium reserves shall be used.
