Section 26-16-111 Legislative findings. The Legislature finds and declares all the following:
(1) Protection of the health and welfare of the infants of this state is a goal of its people
and the unexpected or unexplained death of an infant is an important public health concern
that requires legislative action. (2) Death scene investigations and findings thereof can
be particularly important in accurately diagnosing the manners and causes of infant deaths.
(3) Collecting accurate data on the cause and manner of unexpected infant deaths will better
enable the state to protect infants from preventable deaths and will help reduce the incidence

Section 22-19-161 Definitions. In this article: (1) "Adult" means an individual who
is at least 18 years of age. (2) "Agent" means an individual: (A) authorized to
make health care decisions on the principal's behalf by a power of attorney for health care;

and declares all of the following: (1) An unattended and sudden death is one of society's
most tragic events and should receive the appropriate caring, competent, and thorough attention
of all levels of government. (2) A suspicious, sudden, or violent death is very difficult

Section 45-37-60.07 Duty to investigate certain deaths. Pursuant to rules and regulations promulgated
by the Coroner-Medical Examiners' Commission, it shall be the duty of the chief and associate

efforts are not required to be made. (a) When the juvenile court enters an order removing
a child from his or her home and places the child into foster care or custody of the Department
