Section 11-96A-1 Legislative declarations. It is hereby declared that a lack of sanitary, safe, and affordable dwelling accommodations for persons of moderate and low income and shelters, halfway houses and emergency housing for persons who would otherwise be homeless exists in various municipalities and rural areas of the state. Consequently, persons of low and moderate income are forced to reside in and use unsafe and unsanitary dwellings and certain other persons are unable to afford any dwelling accommodations at all. These conditions which cause an increase in and spread of disease and crime constitute a menace to the health, safety, morals, and welfare of the citizens of the state. Section 25-5-57 Compensation for disability. (a) Compensation schedule. Following is the schedule of compensation: (1) TEMPORARY TOTAL DISABILITY. For injury producing temporary total disability, the compensation shall be 66 2/3 percent of the average weekly earnings received at the time of injury, subject to a maximum and minimum weekly compensation as stated in Section 25-5-68, but if at the time of injury the employee received average weekly earnings of less than the minimum stated in Section 25-5-68, then he or she shall receive the full amount of the average weekly earnings per week. Section 24-1-81 Low income housing in rural areas. Without limiting the generality of other provisions of this article, a county housing authority is empowered to borrow money, accept grants, and exercise its other powers under this article to provide housing for persons of low income in rural areas. The undertaking of the construction of any dwelling or dwellings under this section shall constitute a "housing project" within the meaning of this article.
