Section 23-1-22 Chief engineer - Office created; appointment, salary, expenses, and bond; applicability of Merit System. (a) There is hereby created within the State Department of Transportation the position of chief engineer, which shall be filled by appointment by the Director of Transportation, with the approval of the Governor. The chief engineer shall be allowed traveling expenses when traveling on business of the state pursuant to Article 2 of Chapter 7 of Title 36, all to be paid from funds of the State Department of Transportation as salaries and expenses of other State Department of Transportation employees are paid.
