Section 33-12-5 Powers, duties and functions. The powers, duties and functions of the agency
shall be as follows: (1) GENERALLY. The agency a. Shall have perpetual succession in its corporate
name. b. May sue and be sued in its corporate name. c. May adopt, use and alter a corporate
seal, which shall be judicially noticed. d. May enter into such contracts and cooperative
agreements with the federal, state and local governments, with agencies of such governments,
with private individuals, corporations, associations, trusts and other organizations as the
board may deem necessary or convenient to enable it to carry out the purposes of this chapter,

South has a sense of community based on common social, cultural and economic needs and fostered

Section 36-25-1 Definitions. Whenever used in this chapter, the following words and terms shall
have the following meanings: (1) BUSINESS. Any corporation, partnership, proprietorship, firm,
enterprise, franchise, association, organization, self-employed individual, or any other legal

Section 41-16-27 Manner of awarding contracts; records; exemptions. (a) When purchases are
required to be made through competitive bidding, award shall, except as provided in subsection
(f), be made to the lowest responsible bidder taking into consideration the qualities of the
commodities proposed to be supplied, their conformity with specifications, the purposes for
which required, the terms of delivery, transportation charges, and the dates of delivery,
provided, that the awarding authority may at any time within 30 days after the bids are opened
negotiate and award the contract to anyone, provided he or she secures a price at least five
percent under the low acceptable bid. The award of such a negotiated contract shall be subject

Section 41-9-682 Function and powers generally. (a) It shall be the function and main purpose
of the board to honor those, living or dead, who, by achievement or service, have made outstanding
and lasting contributions to music in Alabama or elsewhere. The board may adopt such rules,

Section 25-4-10 Employment. (a) Subject to other provisions of this chapter, "employment"
means: (1) Any service performed prior to January 1, 1978, which was employment as defined
in this section prior to such date and, subject to the other provisions of this section, services
performed for remuneration after December 31, 1977, including service in interstate commerce,
