Section 41-14A-9 Procedures for payment of losses. (a) When the State Treasurer becomes aware that a default or insolvency has occurred, the State Treasurer shall provide notice as required in subsection (b) and implement the following procedures: (1) The State Treasurer shall obtain information from the Superintendent of Banks of the State Banking Department or the receiver of the qualified public depository in default in order to ascertain the amount of funds of each public depositor on deposit at such depository and the amount of deposit insurance applicable to such deposits. (2) The potential loss to public depositors shall be calculated by compiling claims received from public depositors. The State Treasurer shall validate claims of public depositors who filed claims under subsection (b) and which have been confirmed under subdivision (1). Any other provision of law notwithstanding, the procurement of professional services by any agency, department, board, bureau, commission, authority, public corporation, or instrumentality of the State of Alabama shall be conducted through the following selection process: (1)a. Except as otherwise provided herein, attorneys retained to represent the state in litigation shall be appointed by the Attorney General in consultation with the Governor from a listing of attorneys maintained by the Attorney General. Section 36-27-21.3 Cost-of-living increases; funding. (a) There is hereby provided, commencing October 1, 1982, to any person retired prior to October 1, 1981, under the Teachers' Retirement System or Employees' Retirement System of Alabama and who is receiving a retirement allowance therefrom, a cost-of-living increase of $1.00 per month for each year of creditable service attained by said member; provided any person retired under the provisions of Section 36-27-7, or 36-27-7.1 shall receive an increase of $.50 per month for each year of creditable service attained by said member. (a) In order to implement work-oriented rehabilitation programs in an actual private enterprise work environment, the Commissioner of the Department of Corrections may contract or enter into agreements with private individuals, enterprises, partnerships, or corporations to develop joint plants, businesses, factories, or commercial enterprises.
