Section 34-37-17 Violation; penalty. (a) The board shall have the administrative authority to discipline or require a certificate holder to attend training specific to violations. The board has the authority to levy civil fines or penalties to any registered apprentice, certificate holder, or legal entity registered by the board for a violation of any provision of this chapter regulating plumbers, gas fitters, or medical gas pipe fitters up to two thousand dollars ($2,000) per violation and actual hearing cost. (b) In addition to or in lieu of the criminal penalties and administrative sanctions provided in this chapter, the board may issue an order to any person or legal entity engaged in any activity, conduct, or practice constituting a violation of this chapter, directing the person or legal entity to forthwith cease and desist from the activity, conduct, practice, or performance of any work then being performed or about to be commenced. Section 40-29A-3 Tax amnesty program. (a) The department shall develop and implement a tax amnesty program in accordance with the provisions of this chapter. The commissioner may provide by rule as necessary for the administration and implementation of the program. The commissioner shall publicize the program in order to maximize the public awareness of and participation in the program. Section 40-9-21.2 Falsely claiming homestead exemption. (a) Any person who knowingly and willfully gives false information for the purpose of claiming a homestead exemption, or for the purpose of assisting another person in claiming a homestead exemption, shall be ordered to pay twice the amount of any ad valorem tax which would have been due retroactive for a period of up to 10 years plus interest at a rate of 15 percent per annum from the date the tax would have been due. (b) The penalties and interest assessed against any person who obtained an exemption based upon false information or any person who assisted another in claiming an exemption with false information shall be paid within thirty days of written demand by the local taxing official or the department.
