Section 27-29-6.2 Group-wide supervisor for internationally active insurance group. (a)(1) The commissioner may act as the group-wide supervisor for any internationally active insurance group in accordance with this section. The commissioner may otherwise acknowledge another regulatory official as the group-wide supervisor where the internationally active insurance group meets any of the following: a. Does not have substantial insurance operations in the United States. b. Has substantial insurance operations in the United States, but not in this state. c. Has substantial insurance operations in the United States and this state, but the commissioner has determined pursuant to the factors set forth in subsections (b) and (f) that the other regulatory official is the appropriate group-wide supervisor. (a)(1) The State Board of Medical Examiners on its own motion may investigate any evidence which appears to show that a physician or osteopath holding a certificate of qualification to practice medicine or osteopathy in the State of Alabama is or may be guilty of any of the acts, offenses, or conditions set out in Section 34-24-360. As part of its investigation, the board may require a criminal history background check of the physician or osteopath. Section 34-13-56 Grounds for revocation, suspension, or refusal to issue or renew licenses, etc.; hearing; fines. (a) The board may refuse to license any person or establishment for violation of this chapter.
