Section 22-19-73 Statistical and demographic information on organ donor designations. The Alabama State Law Enforcement Agency shall quarterly electronically transfer statistical and demographic information including, but not limited to, the name, most recent address, and date of birth, if available, of any person who has a current driver's license or nondriver identification card and who has designated that he or she wishes to be an organ donor to the federally certified Alabama Organ Procurement Organization that is a member of and abides by the rules and regulations of the United Network for Organ Sharing. Section 22-19-161 Definitions. In this article: (1) "Adult" means an individual who is at least 18 years of age. (2) "Agent" means an individual: (A) authorized to make health care decisions on the principal's behalf by a power of attorney for health care; or (B) expressly authorized to make an anatomical gift on the principal's behalf by any other record signed by the principal. (b) The Legislature finds: (1) There is an acute need for organ donors in Alabama and throughout the nation. (2) According to the United Network for Organ Sharing, more than 121,000 people are waiting for an organ transplant nationally, and a new person is added to the waiting list every 18 minutes.
