Section 16-56-12 Police officers. (a) The Chancellor of Troy University may appoint and employ persons as he or she may deem proper to serve as police officers pursuant to Sections 16-22-1 and 16-22-2. These police officers may do any of the following: (1) Eject trespassers from university buildings and grounds. (2) Arrest without a warrant any person believed guilty of disorderly conduct or of trespass upon the property under the control of the university, or for any public offense committed in their presence, and carry them before the nearest district court or municipal court. Upon proper affidavit charging the offense, the person arrested may be tried by the court and convicted as in cases of persons brought before the court on a warrant. (3) Summon a posse comitatus. (4) Arrest with a warrant any person found upon or near the premises of the university charged with any public offense and take that person before the proper officer. Section 22-40A-3 Definitions. The following terms shall have the following meanings unless the context clearly indicates otherwise: (1) APPROVED. (a) Whenever, on the basis of any information, the department determines that any person is in violation of any requirement of this chapter, any rule or regulation promulgated by the department or any permit issued under authority granted by this chapter, the department may issue an order requiring compliance immediately or within a specified time period, and, in cases where an imminent threat to human health or the environment is demonstrated, suspend operations causing such threat until the department determines that adequate steps are being taken to correct such violations.
