Section 2-17-38 Construction of chapter. The provisions of this chapter are cumulative with and shall not be construed as to repeal or supersede Sections 20-1-2, 20-1-20, 20-1-21, 20-1-22, 20-1-25, and 20-1-27. (a) All laws or parts of laws, both general and local, and any rules or portions of rules adopted by the Supreme Court which conflict with this chapter are expressly repealed. (a) Any provision to the contrary, notwithstanding, any member of the Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama or the Employees' Retirement System of Alabama who shall have attained the service requirements for surviving spouse benefits may nominate such person as he may desire to receive any benefits payable on account of said member's death prior to his date of retirement.
